Nantucket Archive 1996-2001
Being a surfer in Nantucket isn't easy. Along with the flat spells that everyone else deals with, we have a big disadvantage when it comes to travelling off island to other surf spots in the New England area. Getting off the island with your boards and a ride is a pain in the arse. The wind is fickle, SW is onshore so we get our fair or not so fair share of blown out conditions. In the summer we are inundated with whale pant wearing tourists which of course brings the crowds to some of our best surf beaches. Because all we have is beach break, the paddle outs(especially in the winter) can be brutal. Ice cream headache...anyone? However when the elements come together there is no place like home.
